The World Reimagined

The World Reimagined is an ambitious art education project to transform how we understand the Transatlantic Trade in Enslaved Africans and its impact on all of us, so we can make racial justice a reality together.

The World Reimagined sees 10 trails of Globe sculptures across 7 cities, created by 100+ artists responding to themes ranging from 'Mother Africa' and 'The Reality of Being Enslaved' to 'Still We Rise' and 'Expanding Soul'.

It was founded by actor Michelle Gayle and Dennis Marcus in the belief that if we are to create a future of racial justice, UK society must come together in dialogue around how we understand our history; how our past shapes the present and future; and how we can act for social change.

They argue this is not ‘Black history’, but all our history. The World Reimagined is designed to be a project of dialogue and learning to inspire healing and pride. Live from August to October 2022, The World Reimagined's trails are part of a broader learning and community programme that has seen 175+ schools create their own smaller sculptures; and 75+ community organisations receive grants to enable local engagement.

Connected by a unique heritage collection, the programme is an invitation to all to join a journey of learning, dialogue and action in the belief that everyone has a role to play. After the trails end, the Globes will be auctioned to raise money for a new grant-making fund to support racial justice organisations across the UK.
