As Summer officially draws to a close, we're celebrating the arrival Autumn with five places to visit to make the most of the season of crisp days and golden leaves.
Whether you’re looking to visit somewhere new or want to explore your nearby surroundings, many green spaces across the UK are supported thanks to National Lottery players. Discover some of our favourites to enjoy this season…
1. Yorkshire Sculpture Park
While it may be known for its incredible selection of sculptures, including works by Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, and Ai WeiWei, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park is not just about the art.
With over 150 acres of historic woodland that’s home to an array wildlife, including sheep and highland cows, the park offers an accessible and enjoyable way to encounter art, while surrounded by the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, alive with Autumnal colours.
2. Brodie Castle, Scotland
The ancestral home of the Brodie Clan for over 400 years, Brodie Castle houses a magnificent collection of furniture, ceramics and artwork, as well as an impressive library containing over 6,000 volumes.
The large estate surrounding the castle is home to a rich variety of habitats, from formal gardens to ponds and natural woodland. Several trails and a couple of nature hides offer great opportunities to spot some wildlife during your visit. Plus, no need to leave your four-legged friends at home, as dogs are welcome on the estate.
4. Westonbirt, The National Arboretum
Home to 2,500 different species from the far corners of the globe and five national tree collections, Westonbirt is the perfect place to enjoy the colours of Autumn as the season changes.
Stroll through their woodland paths and enjoy the breath-taking red and orange hues of the leaves. If you venture further into the woods, you may even bump into the Gruffalo!
3. Creggan Country Park, Derry
Derry’s best kept secret! Creggan Country Park is a unique green space where the urban landscape meets the countryside.

5. Penrhyn Castle and Garden, Wales
Built in the early 19th century, Penrhyn Castle’s formidable architecture is built on dark foundations.
Set on the Menai Straits, with a backdrop of Snowdonia’s summits, Penrhyn Castle commands views to its quarry, and to the port from where the slate was exported around the world. It is surrounded by wooded and open parkland, as well as a walled garden that pre-dates the Castle and provides a calm haven for relaxation.
