VOLUNTEERING WILL SURVIVE!
15th Gorffennaf 2013
MEET THE 2012 VOLUNTEERS KEEPING THE OLYMPIC SPIRIT ALIVE IN ALL CORNERS OF THE UK
(...and making a bit of a song & dance about it!)
A year ago 70,000 extraordinary people were inspired by London 2012 to give up some of their spare time to help deliver the greatest show on earth.
Nearly 12 months on, the Games are over but the Olympic spirit is very much alive in all corners of the UK thanks to the hundreds of Games Makers and London Ambassadors still volunteering.
‘National Lottery volunteers present’ is a unique music video that celebrates the Games Makers and London Ambassadors now volunteering at National Lottery funded projects across the UK. The film champions the individuals making a difference in their local communities by shining a spotlight on the projects they support and showcasing the great work they do - all of this whilst singing along to a specially written ‘Volunteers’ Anthem’ to the backing track of “I Will Survive”!
Filmed at a diverse range of locations including Stonehenge, The Science Museum, The Manchester Lowry and Camden Lock, ‘National Lottery volunteers present’ demonstrates the valuable contribution that volunteers are continuing to make to their communities and the incredible variety of projects and landmarks they support.
Commenting on the launch of ‘National Lottery volunteers present’ Jackie O’Sullivan, Director of the National Lottery Good Causes, says: “There are thousands of volunteering opportunities at Lottery funded projects in all corners of the UK, from sports and culture, to charities and heritage. There really is something for everyone. Just as National Lottery funding was vital to London 2012, it is also hard at work supporting a wide variety of projects and activities keeping the spirit of 2012 alive.”
Almost £2.2 billion raised by National Lottery players went towards making London 2012 a great success. Post Games, the National Lottery is committed to ensuring a positive Olympic legacy with continued support to grassroots sports, culture and encouraging inclusivity across the UK.
The National Lottery now raises £35 million a week for good causes, and since 1994 £30 BILLION has been awarded to 400,000 projects across the arts, sport, heritage, charities, health, education and the environment.
