Youth Sport Trust
This charity has an impressive 20-year record of improving the lives and health of young people across the UK by encouraging and supporting the take-up of sport in schools
Youth Sport Trust want to create a future where every child can benefit from playing or taking part in sport, to help improve not just their physical wellbeing but their mental health too.
Since 1995, this national children’s charity has been building successful partnerships with schools, communities, health and sports bodies to create a lasting legacy, and National Lottery funding has been this mission in recent years.
With the challenges of time and funding that schools face, plus the ever-growing importance of technology in children’s lives, it can be argued that the work of the Youth Sport Trust is more important than ever.
One recent National Lottery funded project was the inspiring Grow, Live, Work film about the charity’s Local People Project initiative, which uses sport and physical activity to build social connectivity across five areas in the UK.
The initiative is currently in its third year and is being run across Brent, Swansea, Dorking, Hull and Milton Keynes.
The project and funding we received has given our community a chance to have a louder voice and create change on issues that matter to us. “We have achieved so much and it’s not just one age group making a difference, it’s intergenerational. I know this project will leave a lasting legacy.”
Adrian Kelly, The local People coordinator in Brent
The Youth Sport Trust strategy for 2018-2022 focuses on six important objectives, with the core being to tackle the decline in young people’s general wellbeing.
The charity knows that sport, play, and physical activity hold the key to tackling many of these challenges, and the National Lottery will be supporting their important efforts all the way.
